Arne Slot confirms talks with Ibrahima Konaté over new contract! Liverpool eager to keep key defender
The future of Ibrahima Konaté at Anfield is entering a decisive phase. The 26-year-old Liverpool defender is in the final months of his current contract, which expires this June. That means the club needs to act quickly to settle the player's future.
Details: The Merseysiders' head coach Arne Slot has officially confirmed that the club has launched active efforts to extend the contract of French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté.
"We're in negotiations with him, and that speaks for itself about our intentions. Obviously, we want him to stay, but the talks are ongoing, so we'll see how it ends. We wouldn't be having these discussions if we didn't want to keep him in the squad," Slot told Liverpool Echo.
The manager also stepped up to defend the player, whose performances this season have drawn criticism for occasional errors. Slot emphasized that Konaté's reliability and his partnership with Virgil van Dijk are the backbone of Liverpool's defense. According to the coach, given the squad's injury problems and shortage of defenders, losing Konaté would be an irreplaceable blow.
It's worth noting that this season, the Frenchman has played 33 matches for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 2 goals. Transfermarkt values him at €50 million.
Reminder: Arne Slot responded to rumors about other clubs' interest in Curtis Jones, stating they have no intention of letting him go as the club sees him as an important part of their future.
