Manchester City traveled to Newcastle for the EFL Cup semi-final and secured a 2–0 victory. One of the City players also matched a long-standing club record.

Details: In the 53rd minute, Anthony Semenyo scored a goal. According to Opta, he became the first player since 2009 to score in his first two matches for Manchester City. The last to achieve this was Emmanuel Adebayor.

The game also featured a controversial moment. In the 63rd minute, it appeared Manchester City had doubled their lead. However, the referees paused the match to review the incident. After a lengthy review, they ultimately decided to disallow the goal due to an offside.

Reminder: It is worth noting that closer to the end of the first half, winger Jacob Murphy suffered an injury. After an assessment by the medical staff, a decision was made to withdraw the player from the match. Harvey Barnes came on in place of Murphy.
