Two-time Olympic champion and former world No. 1 Andy Murray has withdrawn from the singles draw of the 2024 Olympics.

The three-time Grand Slam champion made this decision due to a back injury. However, he has not withdrawn from the doubles event and will compete alongside Dan Evans. Murray has also confirmed that he will retire after the conclusion of these Olympic Games.

This means his last singles match was in the second round of the ATP 500 tournament in London, from which he withdrew due to injury.

Andy Murray is the only male player to have won two Olympic singles gold medals. No one else has managed to defend the gold in men’s singles. Additionally, the Briton has won 46 ATP Tour titles, including 14 Masters 1000 tournaments.

It is worth noting that world No. 1 Jannik Sinner will miss the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The Italian tennis player made this decision due to tonsillitis.
