Algeria is now officially a candidate for one of the two additional qualifying berths for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), according to a recent declaration by the Confederation of African Football. The tournament, which has been rescheduled for August 2025, was originally slated for February 2025 but was delayed owing to preparations in host nations Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

After initially rejecting participation, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) reversed its decision, and Algeria joins Egypt, South Africa, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, and Comoros in vying for the two spots through direct qualification matches.

The 2023 CHAN finalists, who hosted the tournament last year, narrowly lost to Senegal in a penalty shootout in the final. Algeria’s national local team now has the chance to compete again, with expectations high for the squad’s performance. Should they qualify, Algeria will be placed in Group C alongside other competitors for the final stage of the competition.

The 2024 edition will feature 19 countries, promising tight competition across many groupings. The host countries for this edition are expected to create a tough environment for all teams competing for the famous continental trophy.
