Alexandre Lafitte smiling to the Carling Cup Knockout final to face Orlando Pirates
Alexandre Lafitte exudes excitement.
The Marumo Gallants coach’s joy knows no bounds as his side defeated Golden Arrows 4-2 on penalties in what was a defensive masterclass from his side.
Gallants were not a match against Arrows as the Durban side was sending wave after wave of attacks.
The Mangaung side stood in their half for the greater part of the match in regulation time.
In truth, the side from Free State planned to defend so they take the game to penalties as their goalkeeper, Washington Arubi is adept at saving the spotkicks.
And he did as he saved two from Arrows.
Arubi’s 28-year-old coach duly expressed happiness at the result.
"This is a fantastic result for the team and for the club,” he said after the game.
“It was a really difficult game, especially in extra time, because the intensity decreased. Still, I liked the mentality from my team to stay in the game and force the penalty shootout."
Gallants will face Orlando Pirates in the December 6 final in Polokwane.
