Alarm before Arsenal! Kompany misses Bayern press conference because of illness
Bayern's preparations for one of their biggest European matches of the autumn have taken an unexpected turn.
Details: Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany missed Tuesday's final training session and the pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League clash with Arsenal. Bayern officially confirmed that the Belgian was resting because of a viral infection, with assistant coach Aaron Danks taking his place alongside Serge Gnabry at the media briefing. Sporting director Max Eberl had previously revealed that Kompany was also dealing with a sports-related hip problem, which restricted his movement during the 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig.
Kompany spent much of the Leipzig match sitting on the bench and left most of the instructions from the technical area to his assistants. He also skipped his usual post-match media duties, with Eberl appearing before reporters instead.
The situation remains uncertain ahead of Wednesday's meeting with Arsenal. Danks said Kompany was still at home and that his condition was being assessed day by day, meaning his presence on the touchline has not yet been guaranteed.
It is worth noting that Bayern and Arsenal have met 15 times in the Champions League. Bayern have won eight of those matches, while Arsenal have four victories and three games ended in draws. The German side's home record against the London club stands at five wins, one draw and one defeat.
