After talks with Arteta: Alvarez makes final decision on Arsenal move
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta personally tried to convince Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez to continue his career at the London club. However, the Argentine forward rejected the Gunners' proposal.
According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Arteta recently held a phone conversation with Atletico's star player. Alvarez, however, remained adamant and made it clear that he does not want to return to the English Premier League. Barcelona remains his only desired destination.
“At the moment, Alvarez moving to Arsenal is highly unlikely. He spoke to Arteta and said that he does not want to join Arsenal. Atletico have so far closed the door on a potential move for Alvarez to Barcelona, so there will still be an opportunity for the Gunners. I cannot guarantee anything, because the situation can change at any moment. But right now, Julian joining Arsenal looks unlikely,” Ornstein said on TNT Sports.
Alvarez has openly stated his desire to join Barcelona, but Atletico's hierarchy have so far ignored the player's request. The 26-year-old Argentine has played for the Madrid club since 2024, when he joined from Manchester City.
