Achraf Hakimi is the main favorite for the African Ballon d'Or 2025
The ceremony will take place on Tuesday in Rabat, and all eyes are on Hakimi to claim the trophy—no last-minute surprises expected.
Details: According to Mundo Deportivo, Moroccan PSG defender Achraf Hakimi is considered the leading contender for the 2025 African Ballon d'Or.
For the 27-year-old, this could be another major milestone. He already boasts three "Moroccan Footballer of the Year" titles—in 2021, 2022, and 2025. This season, Hakimi became a European champion with PSG, a triumph that significantly boosted his standing in the voting.
Currently, Hakimi is recovering in Murcia from an injury sustained in the Champions League match against Bayern, after a tough challenge from Luis Díaz. The defender suffered a ligament sprain, but there was no tear, and his recovery timeline is estimated at 6–8 weeks. Despite the setback, he is confidently preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.
Reminder: The Morocco national team coach is confident that Achraf Hakimi will join the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations despite the injury.
