Abdeslam Ouaddou has explained what transpired between his Orlando Pirates bench and the Durban City one.

The Sea Robbers gaffer was seen in a near brawl with the opposition bench during Pirates' goalless draw against City at the Orlando Amstel Arena yesterday.

But the Pirates coach has quelled those scenes as he says it was nothing out of the ordinary.

It seems he was reacting to how the Kwa-Zulu Natal were tackling the Pirates players.

“There is a difference between playing strong with physicality on the ball and to break the players, this is not the mentality and never will be mine, as first an educator, before being a coach,” said Ouaddou.

“We need to protect the players, if someone cannot protect them in the middle of the pitch, then I have to protect them.

“We don’t have to forget that in the stands there’s children. We have to be an example, football has to be a bridge, and example, a model for the next generation.”

The former AS Vita and Marumo Gallants coach said after the game it was all peace between him and the Pitso Dladla bench.

“We had a chat with the coach, at the end and everything is okay, he understands me and he just apologised and I congratulated him for the good game they did. We need to be more clever against these types of teams who come and kick you.”

The draw meant Pirates will need to beat Orbit College next weekend in Mbombela to clinch this season's PSL title.
