Details: According to Daily Mail, a group of football hooligans arranged a confrontation at The Carpenters pub in Stratford, a popular gathering place for West Ham supporters, on Friday evening. However, instead of the anticipated fight between rival fan groups, the gathering ended in a police operation that resulted in the arrest of 26 people.
The incident occurred ahead of the first meeting between Millwall and West Ham in 14 years. The two London clubs were preparing to renew their historic rivalry on September 19 at The Den in what would be their 100th competitive encounter. According to the report, the planned confrontation at the pub ended with police intervening before the rival groups could meet.
The Metropolitan Police had already announced enhanced security measures for the derby, with approximately 400 officers deployed to maintain public order. The authorities also introduced additional restrictions in the surrounding area in an attempt to prevent potential disturbances involving opposing supporters.
The rivalry between the two clubs has a long history of serious incidents involving supporters, making the return of this fixture a significant challenge for local police. The previous meeting between West Ham and Millwall took place in February 2012, when the Hammers secured a 2-1 victory despite playing much of the match with ten men.
