A one-euro deal! Legendary French club officially gets a new owner

The long-suffering Girondins have taken a decisive step toward financial recovery and emerging from their prolonged crisis.

Details: French club Bordeaux have officially announced the signing of an ownership transfer agreement. The company owned by the team’s current owner, Gérard Lopez, has reached a final agreement with English investment firm Park Bench.

The deal was completed for the symbolic sum of one euro, with the new investors taking full responsibility for restructuring and servicing the team’s debts. As part of the legal ownership-transfer process, the buyers will undergo a mandatory interview in the coming days with the Regional Commission for Management Oversight of the New Aquitaine Football League.

The official statement emphasizes that the signing of the agreement marks a crucial stage in the club’s future and paves the way for the normalization of its financial operations after several years of turmoil.

It is worth noting that Bordeaux are six-time French champions and four-time winners of the national cup. In the 2009/10 season, they reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. However, following bankruptcy in the summer of 2024, the club lost its professional status and was relegated to the lower divisions.
