A legend's legacy 95 years later! Pio Esposito matches Giuseppe Meazza's timeless record
The young Italian striker has etched his name alongside the greatest symbol in the history of the national team.
Details: Inter Milan and Italy striker Francesco Pio Esposito matched the historic record of legendary Giuseppe Meazza by scoring in yesterday's UEFA Nations League clash with Turkey.
The forward's 87th-minute strike in Bologna sealed Italy's convincing 3:1 victory and marked his seventh goal in the national-team shirt. Pio Esposito became only the second player in the history of the Azzurri to score seven goals for Italy before turning 21.
The only footballer to reach this milestone at such a young age was the great two-time world champion Giuseppe Meazza, who scored his seventh goal for Italy back in January 1931. The young striker even surpassed the iconic Gianni Rivera in terms of scoring speed, establishing himself as a key focal point of the national team's attack.
It is worth noting that Francesco Pio Esposito needed just 13 appearances for the Italian national team to reach this masterful landmark. At youth level, the forward had previously won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship and a silver medal at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
