In April of this year, it emerged that referee Matej Boltauzer was caught shoplifting a bottle of perfume at an airport. Now, it’s been confirmed that he is banned from officiating any games this season.

Details: In April, the news outlet Republica released surveillance footage showing Boltauzer stealing a perfume bottle from a shop in Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport. Reports indicated that Boltauzer admitted to the theft to police before being released.

Notably, this incident occurred the day after Boltauzer officiated the game between Partizan and Monaco.

Following an investigation, EuroLeague officials suspended Boltauzer from refereeing for the remainder of the season. The Slovenian referee may return next season if the EuroLeague’s officiating department deems him rehabilitated, according to Eurohoops.

Reminder: Slovenian referee Boltauzer has been working in the EuroLeague since 2003, establishing himself as one of the most highly regarded officials in the sport. He has officiated numerous international competitions and Final Four tournaments.

It’s worth noting that the stolen perfume was valued at €221.
