9 months of waiting. Senegal will only find out if their African championship title is returned by the end of the year
The Senegal national team has launched its fight to reclaim the African championship title at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
Details: According to The Telegraph, the Senegalese federation’s lawyers have prepared a powerful appeal against CAF’s controversial decision to annul their victory in the final.
The main obstacle to a swift resolution is the bureaucracy: CAS proceedings could drag on for up to nine months.
This means the official status of the 2025 African champions will remain "in limbo" almost until the end of 2026. However, Senegal’s legal arguments are seen as strong enough to challenge the 0-3 forfeit.
Recall, Senegal was stripped of the title after players walked off the pitch late in the final against Morocco, protesting a penalty decision.
Also worth noting: The Senegalese Football Federation is demanding an immediate halt to the trophy handover to Morocco.
