The Super Eagles of Nigeria received a total sum of $30,000 in the dressing room following their hard-fought 4–1 extra-time win against Gabon, as the National Sports Commission (NSC) and its private-sector partners fulfilled a promise made to the team.

The bonus arrived at a sensitive period for the squad. Earlier in the week, the players staged a training boycott over unpaid allowances and unresolved issues with the Nigeria Football Federation.

During the presentation, an NSC official addressed the players with words meant to inspire ahead of the biggest match of their campaign:

“On behalf of the President, we deliver this token of appreciation. It is a sign of what will happen on Sunday. This is what you will receive per goal on Sunday, Insha Allah.”

Captain William Troost-Ekong acknowledged the gesture, praising the team’s effort and welcoming the motivation.

“On behalf of the team, I want to say thank you. The boys really gave everything. This is a big motivation.”

With spirits lifted and unity restored, the Super Eagles now turn their full attention to DR Congo as they chase a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
