Hungary vs Sweden prediction, H2H and probable lineups — 6 June 2025
As part of the international friendly schedule, Hungary will face Sweden in Budapest on Friday, June 6. Kick-off is set for 19:30 Central European Time. I’m backing a bet on the goal tally in this clash.
Match preview
The Hungarian national team has been experiencing a significant upswing in recent years. With several players featuring for top European clubs, the team’s recent success comes as no surprise.
Last autumn, Hungary competed in UEFA Nations League Division A, but couldn’t replicate their previous triumph. While they struggled against Germany and the Netherlands, they did manage to finish ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In March, Hungary played in the play-offs against Turkey but crashed out with a 1-6 aggregate defeat. This means Marco Rossi’s side will compete in Division B in the next Nations League campaign.
The World Cup qualifiers kick off in September, so Hungary will now play two friendlies against Sweden and Azerbaijan. Their World Cup group will see them battling Portugal, Ireland, and Armenia for a berth at the Mundial.
In 2023, Sweden dropped down to Nations League Division C, but encountered few problems in the autumn fixtures. Slovakia, Estonia, and Azerbaijan failed to trouble the Scandinavian side, who confidently topped their group and earned promotion back to Division B.
Sweden’s main assets remain their two strikers, Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak. Gyökeres led the scoring charts with nine goals, while Newcastle’s Isak chipped in with four.
In March, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men suffered a shock defeat to Luxembourg before thrashing Northern Ireland. The upcoming friendlies against Hungary and Algeria are also non-competitive, so results won’t be the primary focus for the Swedes.
Given their impressive squad, Sweden’s main goal is World Cup qualification. Their group looks manageable, lacking any true heavyweights. Sweden will be vying with Kosovo, Switzerland, and Slovenia for a ticket to North America.

Prediction
Hungarian fans are hungry for a home win and will flock to the stadium, hoping to spur their team to success. Sweden will arrive in Budapest without their biggest stars, but former Milan player Tomasson has enough quality at his disposal even without Gyökeres and Isak. Bookmakers are siding with the hosts, and the match promises to be an entertaining contest. I expect a competitive game and will bet on under 3 total goals.
