Home advantage could decide the outcome: Porto vs. PSV prediction
The third-round match of the Champions League league phase between Porto and PSV will take place on October 20, 2026, at the Estádio do Dragão. Neither team has won a match in the competition so far: the Portuguese side lost both of its opening games, while the Dutch side has collected just one point. At the same time, Porto’s domestic campaign has been far more successful — the club has won all eight of its opening Primeira Liga matches and sits firmly at the top of the table.

Porto: strong domestic form and problems only in Europe
Francesco Farioli’s team has made an almost perfect start to the season in Portugal, securing eight consecutive victories and already building a five-point lead over its nearest challengers. The Champions League has been a completely different story: Porto first lost 0-2 to Manchester City before falling 2-3 to Real Betis, despite turning the game around in the second half from 0-1 to 2-1 thanks to goals from Gabriel Veiga and Samu Omorodion.
The hosts have a major freshness advantage heading into this fixture — they did not play a league match last weekend and have had a full week to prepare. In addition, Porto has won six of its last seven competitive matches at the Dragão, making home advantage particularly important. Jan Bednarek’s return from suspension should strengthen the defense, while Samu could make his first start since returning from injury.
PSV: a dip in form and difficult away trips
Peter Bosz’s team comes into the match in far from ideal condition. PSV opened its Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar before losing 0-1 to Leipzig. The situation has also deteriorated in the Dutch league: in the latest round, the team suffered a surprising 1-2 defeat to ADO Den Haag, with Sven Mijnans scoring before later being sent off.
PSV has lost its last two competitive matches and three consecutive away games, making the trip to Porto an extremely difficult one. Injuries to Paul Wanner, Ricardo Pepi and Sam Lammers have added to the team’s problems, while Guus Til remains a doubt. Mijnans will be available, however, as his suspension applies only to domestic competition, and Ruben van Bommel could also return to the squad.
Match facts and head-to-head record
- Porto has lost both of its opening Champions League matches.
- PSV is winless in its last three away matches in all competitions.
- The Dutch side has won just one of its previous four meetings with Porto in the European Cup and Champions League.
The hosts should capitalize on their opponents’ poor form: Porto vs. PSV prediction
Based on their current domestic form, Porto looks considerably more convincing. Farioli’s team has been consistent, has had more time to recover and is particularly strong at home. The European defeats were disappointing, but both opponents were high-quality sides, and Porto now has a genuine chance to finally pick up its first win of the campaign against PSV.
The Dutch side can cause problems through individual quality and quick attacks, but its away run and injury list are too concerning to ignore. If Porto maintains its usual tempo at home and makes the most of its freshness, it should claim all three points, even if the margin is a narrow one.
