Paradoxically, Fiorentina have looked more successful in European competitions than in Serie A. Last week, Paolo Vanoli’s team routed Jagiellonia (3-0) in the Conference League, and in the last league round they took revenge on Como (2-1) for being knocked out of the Coppa Italia. However, balancing two competitions has proven tough: after European matches, the Florentines have more often dropped points than won in the league.
Vanoli has been rotating his squad actively, but the absence of the suspended Mandragora and the possible loss of Gudmundsson limit his options. The good news is the return of Moise Kean, who has already scored twice in his last two Serie A outings. Fiorentina’s attack has come alive, but 11 goals conceded in the last seven league games show the balance is still an issue.
Pisa are going through a prolonged crisis – their only win of the season came back in November against Cremonese (1-0). Since then, it’s been 14 matches without a win, a managerial change, and a cautious start under Oscar Hiljemark: a draw with Verona (0-0) and a narrow defeat to Milan (1-2), where the decisive goal came late. The team fights hard, but lacks quality up front.
