On Friday, February 27, at the Valeriy Lobanovskyi Stadium in Kyiv, the 18th round of the UPL will see Dynamo host the league newcomers Epicentr. For more on the teams’ form and our match prediction, read on below.

Match preview

Dynamo haven’t had the most convincing start to the spring campaign. Although they clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Rukh in the last round, Ihor Kostyuk’s side still struggle to show a cohesive and confident brand of football. Fans expect a more dominant performance, but the Kyiv outfit continues to lack stability in the final third. Home advantage should play a role, but empty stands and the February chill rarely create a vibrant footballing atmosphere. For Dynamo, three points are a must if they want to keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Epicentr have proven to be a tough nut to crack and have already made their mark in their debut top-flight season. Serhiy Nahornyak’s team currently sit 14th, occupying a relegation play-off spot. The previous round ended poorly for them: a 0-2 defeat to league leaders LNZ highlighted just how challenging it is for the “Purples” to face well-organized sides. Still, Epicentr have already given the big boys a scare in the first half of the season, and they’ll travel to Kyiv looking to pack the defense and strike on the counter.

Tactically, expect a classic siege. Dynamo will dominate possession, while Epicentr will deploy a deep defensive block. The key battle will be on the flanks: if Redushko and Voloshyn can stretch the visitors’ back line, goals should follow.

Probable lineups

Dynamo: Neshcheret, Korobov, Popov, Mykhavko, Vivcharenko, Mykhailenko, Shaparenko, Pikhalyonok, Voloshyn, Redushko, Ponomarenko
Epicentr: Bilyk, Oliveira, Nil, Grygorashchuk, Kyryukhantsev, Zaporozhets, Myronyuk, Seberio, Sifuentes, Rojas, Sydun

Match facts and head-to-head

  • Dynamo thrashed Epicentr 4-1 in the reverse fixture
  • Dynamo have won four of their last five official games
  • Epicentr have just one win in their last seven matches
