Canada vs Denmark: prediction, facts, betting tips and H2H – 18.05.26
Canada
Denmark
The 2026 IIHF World Championship is underway in Switzerland, and on Monday, May 18, Canada will face Denmark in what promises to be another intriguing matchup. The game gets underway at 16:20 CET, and here is my betting pick for the contest.
Canada vs Denmark: match preview
Canada last won the World Championship in 2023, and their results since then have fallen short of expectations. They also recently suffered defeat in the final of the 2026 Olympics and have clearly arrived at this tournament with one goal in mind — reclaiming the title.
Their roster is packed with quality, with 24 of the 25 players coming from the NHL. The squad features the likes of Sidney Crosby, John Tavares, Morgan Rielly, Macklin Celebrini, and plenty of other elite talents. This is clearly a team that has come here to win.
Their start has backed that up: a 5–3 victory over Sweden followed by a commanding 6–0 demolition of Italy. There already appears to be little doubt about their place in the playoffs. The bigger question now is whether anyone can stop Canada.
Denmark are clearly not among the teams expected to halt Canada’s charge, but it was the Danes who stunned the Maple Leafs of international hockey in last year’s World Championship quarter-final. Denmark struck twice late in the game to secure a historic result.
This time, however, they are unlikely to produce a similar shock, especially with this not being a knockout clash. Canada will certainly have revenge on their minds. Denmark have brought just one NHL representative to this tournament — goaltender Mads Søgaard, who is not even Ottawa’s first-choice netminder.
This is a solid team, but certainly not one of the elite sides, especially when compared to the Canadians.
Match facts and H2H
- Canada have opened the tournament with two straight wins.
- Denmark lost their opening game 4–1.
- No fewer than seven Canadian players currently sit among the tournament’s top ten scorers, each with three points.
- In their most recent head-to-head meeting, Denmark defeated Canada 2–1.
Prediction
Canada are the overwhelming favourites heading into this matchup, and I expect them to deliver another victory. My recommended bet is Canada team total over 4.5 goals.
