Burgos
The club was only founded in the mid-1980s, but already made its Segunda debut in 2001. That season ended in immediate relegation, and for many years after, the team toiled away in the fourth tier of Spanish football. In 2021, however, they finally made their way back. After finishing 11th twice, last season they climbed to ninth place.
This campaign has been fairly predictable for the club—no major successes, but, crucially, they’ve picked up enough points to maintain a comfortable distance from the relegation zone. They haven’t managed to repeat that feat, but between 2010 and 2022, they spent just one season in the Segunda. Since dropping back down in 2022, though, they've struggled to get out. Right after relegation, two springs ago, they finished third and reached the playoffs—albeit unsuccessfully. But by 2024, they ended up eighth, missing out on the playoff spots altogether.
The team seems to have improved this season, but consistency remains elusive, and there’s a real threat of missing out on the top two—and, crucially, direct promotion to La Liga. In recent rounds, they suffered a loss to Oviedo and could only draw with Tenerife. However, they bounced back with wins over Elche and Albacete, holding onto the top spot.
