Albacete
Throughout its history, the team has only spent half a decade in La Liga at the end of the last century. They returned for the 2003-2005 spell, but then suffered several relegations down to the third division (including the 2021/2022 season). However, they've since established themselves as a solid Segunda side. Yes, after their return, they even made it to the playoffs two seasons ago, but couldn't secure promotion to the top flight and last spring finished 13th, with nothing to play for.
Alberto González's men are hovering at about the same level this season. Their safety is already guaranteed, so it's no surprise that their spring results have been rather modest. Still, they managed to beat Cartagena at home, and after a slip-up against Huesca, they also defeated Levante.
Racing Ferrol
The club spent a fair amount of time in the Segunda at the start of the century, albeit with interruptions. But after another relegation, they even dropped to the fourth tier before returning to the second division in 2023 by winning their group. Last season, as newcomers, they impressed by finishing in the top 10 of the final standings.
This new campaign, however, has seen them become relegation battlers—a classic case of "second season syndrome." It's already clear that they'll be playing in the third division next season—their relegation was sealed this spring. Still, they managed a 1-0 home win over Eldense last month, and in the most recent rounds drew 0-0 with Tenerife and edged Cadiz 1-0.
