The 37th round of the Saudi Pro League brings us a fixture that looks predictable on paper, but in reality, anything can happen.

On May 21, Al-Fayha will host Al-Hilal at home, and while the favorite seems clear, the intrigue is very much alive. For Al-Hilal, the end of the season is as tense as it gets. The team has been in the title race all year, stringing together winning runs and consistently remaining one of the league's most prolific sides. Even after a setback in the AFC Champions League, their domestic campaign has looked formidable. In recent matches, Al-Hilal have been racking up points with ruthless consistency, barely allowing their opponents any breathing space. Wins over Al-Hazm, Damac, and Al-Khaleej are proof of that dominance.

Al-Fayha are a team of a very different caliber, but it’s these kinds of sides that often cause problems for the giants at the business end of the season. The hosts are currently mid-table, without major objectives left, but at home they know how to slow the game down and make matches as scrappy as possible. Against the top clubs, Al-Fayha usually play a defensive game, betting on a tight backline and quick counterattacks. Sometimes, it pays off.

However, head-to-head history doesn’t favor the hosts. In January of this year, Al-Hilal calmly dismantled them 4-1, and in previous seasons, they’ve also regularly beaten Al-Fayha. The gulf in class is obvious — in terms of squad depth, player quality, and attacking prowess.

The main question heading into this clash: how motivated will Al-Hilal be? If the title race is still alive by then, the visitors will no doubt hit top gear from the opening whistle. That’s bad news for Al-Fayha, because playing fast, open football against this opponent is almost impossible.

Special attention should be paid to Al-Hilal’s attack. They remain one of the most entertaining sides in the league: plenty of movement, high intensity, and relentless pressure down the flanks. When Al-Hilal score first, they’re nearly impossible to stop.

Al-Fayha will likely try to sit back as deep as possible and fight for at least a draw. But the problem is, against this version of Al-Hilal, simply defending for 90 minutes isn’t enough — sooner or later, chances will come.

Expect the visitors to dominate possession, control the tempo, and gradually break down the home defense. Al-Fayha will surely look for a few counterattacks and set pieces, but overall, Al-Hilal just look far superior.

Match prediction: over 2.5 goals.
