The esteemed Zinedine Zidane has been without employment since 2021, when he departed from the coaching helm of Real Madrid for the second time. Since then, he has been linked with numerous positions, both among clubs and national teams.

Recently, he declined to lead the Algerian national team, and this week, information surfaced that the principal shareholder of Manchester United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, would wish to see him in his team. Jean-Claude Blanc, the CEO of INEOS Sport, has long been a fan of Zidane and even attempted to recruit the Frenchman during his time at Paris Saint-Germain.

Where Zidane will end up remains unclear, but his former teammate at Real Madrid, Thomas Gravesen, shared his opinion on the matter.

During a conversation with Discovery+, Gravesen recalled their discussion from two years ago, when the French specialist stated that he would only agree to work with three teams.

"I spoke with Zidane in Madrid two years ago, and he told me that there were only three roles he would consider.

These were Marseille [Real] Madrid and the French national team. We were in Madrid two years ago, and he told me exactly that. I also asked him if he was ready to coach again. And he told me that there were no opportunities for him to be invited by these three".

Gravesen also commented on the rumors regarding Manchester United:

"I would say that the team he had in Madrid was fantastic, and he was ready from the start.

At United, the situation is different; it's very difficult to do anything with the team currently under Ten Hag."

Zidane himself spoke about his future last month. When asked if he plans to return to coaching, the Frenchman replied:

"Why not? Anything can happen.

But right now, I am engaged in something else. I am confident that I will return to the bench; I would like to coach again."
