Zanetti: Romero Is World-Class, But Signing Him Won’t Be Easy

Javier Zanetti spoke from Argentina and made clear his admiration for Cristian Romero, one of the standout players in Argentina's recent thrashing of Brazil. The Inter vice-president acknowledged in an interview with TyC Sports that he would like to see the Tottenham defender at San Siro, although he also remained realistic:

“It's not easy because we're talking about very expensive players,” he stated.

Zanetti joked when asked if Lautaro Martínez ever requested him to bring his compatriot.

“Romero is a complete defender. He marks well, plays well, is focused, and a leader. I love him,” he assured.

He also emphasized that the club's financial sustainability is a priority and that signings of such caliber are not simple. Additionally, he referred to Santiago Castro, a forward from Bologna and another Argentine name linked to Inter:

“He's a great talent. He always participates, beyond the goals. When a player stands out, big clubs follow him closely.”

Regarding the current state of the team, Zanetti expressed optimism: Inter leads Serie A and remains alive in the Champions League and Coppa Italia.

“We hope to crown the season with a great achievement,” he stated.

In the Champions League quarter-finals, they will face Bayern Munich.

“They will be two very balanced matches,” he anticipated.
