Brazilian Media Slam National Team After 4-1 Defeat to Argentina
The 4-1 thrashing handed to Brazil by Argentina in Buenos Aires has left Brazilian media in uproar. A day after the humiliating defeat, headlines across the country echoed with words like “historic shame” and “lost team,” signaling a deep crisis for the Seleção.
O Globo didn’t mince words, claiming the match “exposed the myth of Brazil’s football evolution.” Globo Esporte added that this was Brazil’s worst defeat to Argentina in 41 years, describing the performance as a “historic embarrassment.”
O Dia’s print edition ran with the headline “Historic Shame for Brazil,” while Correio Braziliense called it an “Argentine concert” and a true humiliation. Sports daily Lance! reported that coach Dorival Júnior admitted the tactical plan failed and acknowledged growing pressure on his position.
The crushing loss leaves Brazil fourth in the South American qualifying table and far from convincing. In contrast, Argentina had already secured World Cup qualification prior to the game and reaffirmed their dominance with a commanding display.
As Brazil searches for answers, questions now swirl around Dorival’s future, with the national team under scrutiny like never before.
