Yellow cards and the VAR system. Tour de France prepares for changes
The VAR system, which has been used in football for many years, may soon make its way into another sport—cycling.
Details: According to The Guardian, video replay technology could be introduced at the Tour de France. In addition, riders may be shown yellow cards for infringements. Two yellow cards would mean a seven-day suspension; three yellow cards within 30 days would result in a 14-day ban.
Officials may now scrutinize shoulder bumps, wheel changes, sudden accelerations, and even foul language in the peloton more closely. The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) is planning to expand its disciplinary regulations.
The Tour de France is an annual multi-stage road cycling race held on the roads of France. The first Tour was staged in 1903. Today, the Tour de France is regarded as the most prestigious event among professional stage races.
Reminder: At the most recent Giro d’Italia, there was a major crash involving numerous riders, resulting in injuries to many athletes, including Jai Hindley.
