After a remarkable season at Bayer Leverkusen, head coach Xabi Alonso stayed on with the club, but all signs now point to him closing this chapter in his career soon.

Details: According to Eurosport, Xabi Alonso has made a firm decision to leave Leverkusen at the end of this season. The Spanish coach is aiming to take over at either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

Although Alonso’s contract with Bayer runs until the summer of 2026, the club is reportedly willing to accommodate their head coach’s ambitions and release him early.

Previously, reports indicated that Alonso is the leading candidate to become Real Madrid’s head coach should Carlo Ancelotti depart.

Reminder: Last season, Bayer Leverkusen made history by clinching their first-ever Bundesliga title, finishing the campaign undefeated. The “Pharmacists” also went on to win the German Cup.
