Real Madrid suffered a 0–2 defeat to Celta Vigo, but beyond the result, the team was left furious with the officiating — and head coach Xabi Alonso did not hold back in his criticism.
Details: After the match, the Spanish manager stated that the referee’s performance was simply incomprehensible and poor. The decisions, he said, drove Real Madrid to madness.
Quote: I absolutely did NOT like the referee’s decisions. They were bad. These decisions drove us crazy. Carreras’s red card was exactly what he was clearly looking for. The referee allowed Celta to waste time without even warning them, constantly stopping the game, Alonso said.
Real Madrid currently sit second in the table with 36 points after 16 rounds, four points behind the La Liga leaders.
Reminder: The husband of a current CTA representative in the RFEF ran onto the pitch to confront the referees after the Real–Celta match.
