Wow! White footballers could represent Uganda for the first time

Olly and Seb Fisher could be on the verge of writing an unusual chapter in Ugandan football history.

Details: Partick Thistle teenagers Olly and Seb Fisher, aged 18 and 16 respectively, are in contention to represent Uganda at youth international level. The Scottish-born brothers are eligible through their mother Kate, who was born in Uganda while their grandparents were living in the country. Their grandfather had moved there to work as a schoolteacher.

Both players have already received invitations to Uganda's youth training camps and trained in Jinja. Olly is a goalkeeper and has joined the U20 setup, while his younger brother Seb, a striker, has been working with the U17 side. Uganda U20 head coach Laryea Kingston told the brothers that they could become the first white players to represent the country, according to the Fishers.

The brothers are now hoping to turn the opportunity into competitive international appearances. Olly wants to be involved in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations if Uganda qualify, while Seb has an even more immediate target: a place in Uganda's squad for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year.

It is worth noting that Uganda have already qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup. FIFA placed them in Group B alongside Korea Republic, New Caledonia and Ecuador, with the tournament scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 19 to December 13.
