The story of Christopher Nkunku potentially joining Barcelona has taken an unexpected new twist.

Details: According to L'Équipe, Barcelona have reached out to the representatives of Milan's 28-year-old forward and are considering signing him. The Italian club is looking to trim their squad, and Ruben Amorim no longer sees Nkunku as part of his project. One of the main obstacles for the Catalans is the Frenchman's salary—over €6 million net per season.

Christopher Nkunku is a PSG academy product, making his first-team debut in 2015 and winning the French league title three times. In 2019, the Frenchman moved to RB Leipzig, where he enjoyed the best spell of his career: scoring 70 goals in 172 appearances, winning the German Cup twice, being named Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2021/22, and finishing as the league's top scorer the following year. In the summer of 2023, Nkunku joined Chelsea, but his time in England was repeatedly hampered by injuries. In August 2025, the forward signed a contract with Milan until 2030.

It’s worth noting that Nkunku only joined Milan last summer. In the 2025/26 season, the Frenchman made 35 appearances across all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 assists.

Reminder: Third attempt and £60+ million! Barcelona goes all-in for Manchester City star.
