World cycling champion Rohan Dennis admits guilt in wife's tragic death

Australian cyclist Rohan Dennis has admitted guilt in connection to the tragic death of his wife, Melissa Hoskins, which occurred on December 30, 2023, The Sun reports. Hoskins died following a vehicle accident where Dennis was behind the wheel.

Initially, Dennis faced charges of careless driving and dangerous driving causing death. However, the cyclist later pleaded guilty to creating circumstances that increased the likelihood of harm, a lesser offense.

This charge carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison and a five-year driving ban. The case has been referred to the district court, and sentencing will occur at a later date.

“There was no intention of Mr Dennis to harm his wife and this charge does not charge him with responsibility for her death,” said Dennis’ lawyer, Jane Abbey.

Dennis and Hoskins were married in February 2018 and shared two children together.

Rohan Dennis is a two-time UCI Track Cycling World Champion, securing titles in 2010 and 2011.
