Courbis played as a defender and wide midfielder. He won three French league titles: one with Marseille and two with Monaco. He also claimed a title with Olympiacos and won two French Cups.
After retiring from playing, he became a coach, achieving several titles in that role as well. With Ajaccio, he won Ligue 2, and he also lifted the Algerian Cup and the Arab Champions Cup with USM Alger.
