Mamelodi Sundowns have officially been crowned champions of the South African Premier League, securing their eighth consecutive title. However, the team will have to wait longer than usual to get their hands on the trophy.

Details: Traditionally, the PSL trophy presentation takes place in early June, but this year, things have changed. The reason? Mamelodi Sundowns are set to play two CAF Champions League finals before heading to the FIFA Club World Cup.

The second leg of the CAF Champions League final against Pyramids is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, with Sundowns kicking off their Club World Cup campaign on June 18. This busy calendar is the main reason for the postponed ceremony.

Quote: "In recent seasons, the Premier League trophy ceremony has traditionally taken place in June," the PSL said in an official statement.

Right now, the exact date for the award ceremony remains unknown, but the PSL has promised to announce it in due course.

For the record: Sundowns completed the season without dropping a single point at home, winning all 14 of their home games and matching last year’s tally of 73 points—despite playing only 28 matches instead of 30.
