The world's number one, Iga Swiatek from Poland, has successfully commenced her journey at the WTA 1000 hardcourt tournament in Dubai, UAE.

In the Round of 16, the Polish player defeated Sloane Stephens from the USA (WTA 41) in straight sets in 1 hour and 59 minutes.

This marked the third encounter between the two players, with Swiatek emerging victorious in all three matches.

In the next round of the competition on the UAE courts, Iga will face Elina Svitolina, who has secured victories against Angelina Kalinina and Tatjana Maria in the first two stages.

Swiatek and Svitolina have faced each other twice before. In 2023, the Ukrainian defeated the world number one in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

Swiatek's winning streak now extends to 6 matches. Last week, she clinched the trophy at the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha.
