Will Javier Aguirre take charge of a La Liga club?
Valencia’s management has identified its top candidate for the head coach position following the dismissal of Carlos Corberan. The choice is 67-year-old Mexican coach Javier “El Vasco” Aguirre.
Details: According to Diario AS, negotiations between the Mestalla club and the coach’s representatives are progressing successfully. Valencia’s new sporting director, Braulio Vázquez, sees Aguirre as the ideal crisis manager, capable of quickly steering the team out of the relegation zone and restoring order in the dressing room.
Aguirre initially wanted a two-year deal, but Los Che have set a firm condition: the contract will run exclusively until June 30, 2027. Under the terms of the agreement, an automatic extension will be possible only if the team finishes in La Liga’s top five. The Mexican coach has a positive assessment of Valencia’s squad but is insisting on targeted defensive reinforcements during the winter transfer window.
Aguirre has been out of work since completing his third spell in charge of Mexico at the 2026 World Cup. The coach led the national team to the round of 16, where they lost to England (2-3).
