Why did Mbappé remain on the bench? Deschamps has explained his decision

The head coach of the French national team,Didier Deschamps, answered a question from journalists about why the team captain, Kylian Mbappé,was not in the starting line-up for the Euro 2024 qualifying match against Greece.

According to the specialist, he left the star striker on the bench after a conversation with him. The coach admitted that he decided to take care of the health of the players whose club tournaments begin next weekend.

It is noteworthy that Mbappé still appeared on the field. He was brought on as a substitute only in the middle of the second half, and the game ended in a 2:2 draw.

“I had discussed this with Mbappé before the start of the match. I did everything possible to save the players who have games for clubs next weekend. The Champions League starts in a week. We do not want to put the players at risk of injury”, - RMC Sport quotes Deschamps.

It is reasonable to recall that the French team finished in first place in Group B of the qualifying tournament for Euro 2024.
