Who is Oliver Glasner – new Crystal Palace head coach

On 19 January, Austrian specialist Oliver Glasner became the head coach of Crystal Palace. Let's get acquainted with the new mentor of the London club.

He came to the coaching job in the summer of 2012, when he became an assistant to the notorious German coach Roger Schmidt at RB Salzburg. He was a nim until 2014, when he moved on to work independently.

He spent the first five years of his coaching career in his homeland, leading Reid and LASK, which he took to the first Austrian Bundesliga, before moving to Germany in 2019. He then took charge of Wolfsburg, which he took to the Champions League in the 2020/2021 season.

But, he did not work with the team in the most prestigious European Cup, because in the summer of 2021 he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, with whom he did not perform well in the Bundesliga in the first season, seeding 11th place. But despite this, he managed to qualify for the Champions League. How? Very simple.

The team won the Europa League, which was the team's first international trophy in 42 years. In the Champions League, Glasner and co. also managed to hum, coming out of the group with Tottenham, Sporting and Marseille, however, in the 1/8 finals the team did not score a single goal Napoli and flew out with a score of 0:5.

In the Bundesliga 2022/23 season, Eintracht barely got into the qualification of the Conference League, ahead of eighth-placed Wolfsburg by one point, before leaving the club in the summer of 2023. The Guardian describes Glasner's coaching style this way:

“For Glasner, formation is important, his style is more based on player behaviour when it comes to understanding high pressing and counter-pressing. It is also important for him to use his best strikers to put pressure on the defence and be effective in attack”.
