Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola shared his emotions about the incredible ending to the match between Benfica and Real.
Details: Pep Guardiola admitted that the crazy finish in the Benfica vs Real game made even his own team nervous. According to the Spanish manager, the City players were closely following the parallel match, since its result directly impacted their position in the top eight. When Benfica's goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin charged into the opposition penalty area, chaos erupted in the City dressing room.
"The boys in the dressing room were literally shouting at the TV: 'Where are you going?!' when they saw the keeper leaving his goal," Guardiola said with a laugh.
Pep explained that the risk was enormous: if Real had intercepted the ball and scored into the empty net, Manchester City could have found themselves outside the top eight, completely changing the course of their campaign.
"Real could easily have scored an equalizer, and then we would have dropped out of the top eight. Everyone was shocked by that decision, but in the end, Trubin scored!" Guardiola added.
As a result of this dramatic finish, Manchester City secured eighth place, while Real ended up only ninth.
Reminder: Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois congratulated Anatoliy Trubin after the Ukrainian's goal.
