What about Joshua? Dubois gets green light to defend title with Wardley
Daniel Dubois Cleared for Additional IBF Title Defense Against Fabio Wardley.
Details: The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has given Dubois the green light to defend his title against Wardley instead of facing Anthony Joshua in a rematch.
IBF President Daryl Peoples confirmed that Dubois is permitted an optional defense against any ranked opponent until April 22, addressing the potential bout with Wardley.
In February, Dubois can take on an interim fight. Following that, he’ll either face a mandatory challenger or possibly get the chance to unify titles with Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed crown.
Background: Dubois retained his IBF title with a sensational fifth-round knockout victory over Joshua at Wembley Stadium last month.
On September 21, Dubois defended his belt against Joshua. Despite being the favorite, “AJ” was overpowered by Dubois, hitting the canvas several times before a decisive knockout in the fifth round.
It's worth noting that Turki Alalshikh recently announced the date for the Dubois-Joshua rematch.
