What a twist. Teofimo Lopez to fight in Alcatraz prison

WBO champion in the super lightweight division Teofimo Lopez may return to the ring this summer, and his next fight will take place in a rather unusual location.

Details. According to Ring Magazine, the American fighter will headline a new event scheduled for June or July 2025. Lopez will fight in the world-famous Alcatraz prison.

Alcatraz was a federal maximum-security prison on the island of the same name off the coast of San Francisco, California. The main building of the prison was constructed between 1910 and 1912.

The prison was closed in 1963, but Alcatraz was later reopened as a public museum. Today, it is one of San Francisco's main tourist attractions, drawing around 1.5 million visitors annually.

Reminder. In June, Teofimo Lopez defended his WBO title, defeating Steve Claggett by unanimous decision. This victory marked Lopez's fifth consecutive win.

Earlier, it was reported that the WBO has mandated Lopez to face the winner of the Catterall vs. Barbosa fight.
