The New Year’s celebration ended in tragedy.

Details: The official page of French club Metz reported that 19-year-old youth team player Tahirys Dos Santos sustained serious burns during a fire at the Crans-Montana ski resort in Switzerland on New Year’s Eve.

The fire in Crans-Montana claimed 40 lives and injured 115 people, among them the 19-year-old Metz midfielder.

Dos Santos was urgently airlifted from Switzerland to Germany, where he is now undergoing treatment for his burns.

FC Metz released a statement saying they are providing every possible support to their player and are doing all they can to ensure his speedy recovery.

"Information regarding Tahirys’ health will be provided in the event of significant changes. In the meantime, FC Metz asks everyone to respect the privacy of Tahirys and his family," the club’s statement also said.
