What a debut! Hummels finally makes his Roma debut but scores an own goal right away
After his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired, German football legend Mats Hummels joined Roma in early September. However, until tonight, he hadn't made an appearance for the Italian club.
The long-awaited debut finally happened in Roma's Serie A match against Fiorentina in Round 9.
Details: Following the red card for Roma's Mario Hermoso, Hummels came off the bench in the “Giallorossi” shirt.
But the defender’s debut was anything but fortunate. Just four minutes after coming on, the seasoned German accidentally scored an own goal.
Notably, recent reports suggest that Hummels could leave the Rome-based club as early as this winter.
Reminder: Joining Roma marked Hummels’ first venture abroad, having previously only played for two German giants—Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
