West Ham United vs Manchester City Predicted line-ups and latest news
The final match of today's third round of the English Premier League will feature a clash between West Ham and Manchester City.
West Ham has had a fairly solid start to the season. Although they let a draw slip away against Aston Villa in their opening Premier League match, they comfortably dealt with Crystal Palace in the second. Midweek, they also managed to snatch a victory over Bournemouth in the 1/64th final of the League Cup.
Manchester City's season start has been even more successful. The English champions won the Community Shield against United, followed by victories over Chelsea, and most recently, a resounding win over Ipswich Town, despite conceding first.
As they approach the upcoming match, both teams have minimal losses. The hosts will be without Aaron Cresswell, while Manchester City will miss Oscar Bobb. The participation of Rodri and Phil Foden remains in question.
At the pre-match press conference, West Ham's head coach, Julen Lopetegui, noted that the opponents had more time to rest, but his team is determined to win.
"The best gift [in honor of my birthday on Wednesday, August 28] is always a victory, which will allow us to move forward in this competition. But that's the past, and the present is to be ready and focused on the significant challenge that lies ahead of us: the match against Manchester City.
We need to recover. They had a day off this week, they rested, while we had to fight very hard until the end yesterday [Wednesday, August 28]."
Meanwhile, Manchester City's head coach, Pep Guardiola, praised his opponent ahead of the match.
"New coaches in new places always need time. He is experienced.
At Real [Madrid], the Spanish national team, Sevilla—these are very demanding environments.
He has vast experience, and he is an incredible person. West Ham already had a really good squad, and this summer they brought in new top players.
They have incredible weapons, especially in attack. This is a really strong team."
The coaches are likely to field their strongest players. Both teams will battle for another three points this season. The Dailysports team has prepared information for you with the expected lineups of the teams who will take to the field from the first minutes.
