West Ham striker Michail Antonio was involved in a serious car accident at the end of last year and is still in the process of recovery. However, the forward’s name appeared on the Premier League’s free agents list, sparking speculation about a possible farewell. The club has moved to clarify the situation.

Details: In a statement from West Ham, it was confirmed that Antonio’s inclusion on the list is due to his contract expiring on June 30, and that making any decisions at this point would be inappropriate. The club emphasized its full support for the striker’s recovery.

Quote: “Given Michail Antonio’s unique situation following the serious road traffic accident in December 2024, an official decision and announcement regarding his future will not be made until the time is deemed right and appropriate.

However, as his current contract is also set to expire on June 30, for the purposes of the Premier League’s retained list procedure at the end of the 2024-25 season, Michail will be listed as a free agent.

As a long-serving, respected player and much-loved member of the West Ham family, the club’s absolute priority at this time is to provide Michail with personal support as he strives to return to top-level football,” the statement reads.

Reminder: Previously, West Ham head coach Graham Potter revealed when Antonio might be able to return to the pitch after the horrific accident.
