"We're trying to protect them." Enzo Maresca on the players' application for the Conference League
This summer, Chelsea conducted rather intriguing business in the transfer market, signing a multitude of players. When the time came to register players for various competitions, head coach Enzo Maresca made the decision to omit some key players from certain tournaments, including the Conference League.
Details: It was earlier reported that Chelsea submitted their squad for the Conference League, comprising 25 players. Fans quickly noticed the absence of key players such as central midfielder Romeo Lavia and central defender Wesley Fofana. Additionally, the list did not include the team's top scorer and one of its brightest stars, Cole Palmer, who was nominated for the Ballon d'Or.
Quote: "The reason Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, and Wes Fofana were not included in the Conference League squad is that we are trying to protect them.
Cole is in good form; he's doing fine. We are pleased with how he's feeling," Enzo Maresca stated during a conversation with PA.
Reminder: Chelsea's opponents in the first stage of the Conference League will be Gent, Panathinaikos, Noah, Heidenheim, Astana, and Shamrock Rovers. The team’s first match in the European competition will take place on October 3rd.
