Wednesday 1 April has been declared a public holiday with pay in the DR Congo following the Leopards’ qualification for the World Cup
The government took this decision to allow Congolese people to celebrate the Leopards’ qualification.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is returning to the World Cup after a 52-year absence. The Leopards beat Jamaica on Tuesday 31 March to secure Africa’s 10th place. This historic qualification was eagerly awaited in the DRC and will be celebrated in style. All Congolese people will not be going to work on Wednesday 1 April 2026. The day has been declared a paid public holiday by the Congolese government.
Following the national team’s victory and the Leopards’ qualification for the 2026 World Cup, the Minister of Employment and Labour informs the public that Wednesday 1 April 2026 is declared a paid public holiday throughout the entire national territory. This exceptional decision reflects the wishes of His Excellency Felix Antoine TSHISEKEDI TSHILOMBO, President of the Republic, Head of State and of the Government of the Republic led by Her Excellency the Prime Minister, Judith SUMINWA TULUKA, to enable the Congolese people to celebrate in unity, enthusiasm and national pride.
