"We need players like him" – Deco on Frenkie de Jong's future

Barcelona sporting director Deco has spoken about the future of midfielder Frenkie de Jong at the Catalan club.

Quote: “We want players like Frenkie de Jong, those who are hungry for new titles. We want Frenkie to stay here, and that’s why discussions about his new contract will take place when the time is right,” Sport quotes Deco as saying.

The Dutch midfielder’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2026, but the two parties have yet to reach an agreement on an extension.

Earlier reports indicated that Barcelona has no intention of letting De Jong leave for free in 2026. If negotiations fail, the club will put him up for sale this summer.
