"We had our last chance," said the coach of France about the semifinal against Spain
France suffered a 1-2 defeat to Spain in the semifinals of the 2024 European Championship. Coach Didier Deschamps commented on his team's exit.
Following the match, he expressed reluctance to draw conclusions immediately, noting that the tournament is ongoing. Deschamps acknowledged facing a team that validated its previous performances.
"There were aspects where we could have performed better against an opponent who controlled possession, especially in terms of our passing game, but we lacked verticality. We fought until the end despite our challenges, which stemmed from various reasons.
Many of our players found themselves in difficult situations. It was our sixth match in the tournament, and perhaps we were slightly less energetic. It was our last chance," Deschamps stated.
He added that France did not exhibit their traditional style of play, necessitating adjustments throughout the tournament against different opponents.
Leader and captain Kylian Mbappé also reflected on his performance in this tournament.
