Was this expected? Argentina throws full support behind Infantino
Argentina has made it abundantly clear whose side it’s on in the standoff surrounding Gianni Infantino.
Details: The Argentine Football Association has officially voiced its support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino amid mounting pressure on the global football chief. In an open letter, the federation praised FIFA’s work over the past decade, highlighting the development of football and the strengthening of the organization’s institutional structure.
At the same time, the AFA acknowledged that the controversial project involving the sale of a portion of the World Cup’s future commercial rights has raised far more questions than answers, admitting that mistakes were made in the process of pushing it forward.
Nevertheless, the Argentine side believes that the way out of the current crisis should be found under the leadership of FIFA’s current administration. In doing so, the federation has effectively maintained its trust in Infantino at a critical and turbulent moment for him.
The situation around the FIFA president remains extremely tense. UEFA and several national federations have voiced their opposition to his leadership, while CONMEBOL insists that any decision on the president’s removal should be made only by a vote of all 211 FIFA members. The next presidential election is scheduled for March 2027 in Morocco.
Reminder: Infantino loses his mind. Gianni promises Morocco the World Cup final in exchange for support.
